General Meeting - July, 2005

After introductions of the NSS visitors to the RMMS members, the meeting opened with discussion and last-minute planning for the conference and with the report that Dewey and Farin were arranging the AV, rooms, volunteers, signage, parking and other items as they came up. A request for any and all volunteers to man the registration desks, info tables, help with room monitoring and general go-fering was put out for any members to donate whatever time and efforts that they could. A request for people to host out-of-town visitors on a budget was also released, and to make note of Leonard B.'s extensive Mars memorabilia that will be available for auction which could previewed on the home webpage.
Wayne White, a lawyer who has been working on various aspects of space law for the past twenty five years, gave a preliminary talk about his ideas and soon-to-be-proposed legislation for the creation of property laws and rights in outer space encouraging investment and development of space resources with some clear legal guidelines to promote sane investment and risk management. As this was a talk to be formally unveiled at the conference the request to not publish detailed notes in the minutes was received and honored; however the topic was quite interesting and should be attended at the conference or the DVD of same ordered later if unable to attend that session.
