General Meeting - August, 2004
Brian Enke previewed the two presentations he was scheduled to give at the annual Mars Society Convention.
An updated version of the talk he gave to RMMS last fall about Mars mission economics. He had some updated survey results, updated mission plans/costs, and updated government budget figures.
A highly "speculative" one about looking at Mars mission expenses a different way - based upon the mission design and capabilities. It tackled the issue of cost from the opposite direction. People often start with a dollar amount (like the bogus trillion dollar figure) and infer what capabilities are possible. In the talk, he stepped through some Mars mission design choices and capabilities, assessing how each decision affects the cost of the mission.
